In the rich areas of the Macropolis, people still have a currency that everyone can use to buy goods : the Leto. You can use them to buy pretty much everything that can be sold. Food, weapons, whole buildings, ...
In the poor areas, it is more complicated. Sure, you can still find some merchants that will accept letos in exchange of their services, but you can't eat money. Most of the population use bartering to survive.
The only food that the poor majority can access is the Slop. The Slop has an awful taste and texture, but it is filling, and that's enough for the miserable to stomp each other over it. Its composition is unknown, and questions about it are not welcome. Produced in the Pit by a private company named Goodmile, the Slob's production and stocks are guarded by a personal militia.
Most of the luxurious commodities are produced by private societies that deal with either the Emperium or Orb Corporation. Some might also have secret businesses with the Freaks, but none would deal with the Lycoris.
